When can you retire and how much can you expect to receive?

You can retire as early as age 55 or as late as age 71. The normal retirement age under the Plan is 65, but with enough pension service, you may be eligible for an unreduced pension that starts earlier.

How to Apply

You’re ready! How do you apply to retire?

Your new chapter starts soon with a pension you can count on – for life! Our Member Experience and Pension Operations team is ready to help you every step of the way if you’ve decided to retire or are thinking seriously about it.

  • Consider choosing the last day of the month, as your pension is effective the first of the following month. Pension payments are made on the 26th of each month.

  • Check with your employer to find out when your health benefits coverage will end.

  • Your employer will notify us of your retirement date.

  • Review your information and make updates if needed (email, phone number, beneficiaries, etc.) through your Online Services account.

  • This happens after your employer informs OPTrust of your termination.
